So the shipment arrived and I don't think the yeast is viable. I realized too late that I might have needed to ship the yeast with a cold pack. Of course who expected an 80 degree day in March? I smacked it as recommended and I got no results. My intuition tells me that the yeast is dead, but I wanted to try out the process of propagation so I went ahead ahead and pitched it into a liter of water with 100g of DME after boiling and cooling to 70 degrees. Into a sterile growler and capped with foil... I will see what happens over night and what it looks like in the morning. I think I may have to make a trip to MyLHBS tomorrow for another starter of Ringwood yeast.
UPDATE: I went to "MyLHBS" (My Local Home Brew Shop) and picked up a Wyeast 1187 Activator. It was smacked and allowed to start. After about 2 hours it was noticeably swollen so it was pitched in with the previous starter.
